The Lead Structural Mechanical Engineer will manage and oversee the activities of the mechanical and structural engineering team at DP World, ensuring the successful execution of projects related to container handling equipment and related infrastructure. This role requires expertise in structural design, fatigue and strength analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and mechanical systems design. The engineer will act as a subject matter expert, providing technical leadership, mentoring team members, and ensuring compliance with industry standards while contributing to innovation and operational excellence.What You'll Do
  • Lead and mentor engineers in developing finite element models and structural analyses for container handling equipment.
  • Execute strength and fatigue calculations, validate designs, and provide solutions to extend the lifecycle of port equipment.
  • Supervise design reviews for manufactured products and upgrades, ensuring compliance with EN 13001, FEM 1.001, and related codes.
  • Conduct defect analysis and recommend repair procedures, including welding specifications.
  • Oversee mechanical design of crane components, steel structures, and upgrades; review compliance with standards and customer requirements.
  • Approve manufacturing drawings and support production as needed.
  • Collaborate on project scoping, cost estimation, and technical reporting.
  • Provide technical support to site inspectors during structural surveys and NDT checks.
  • Lead departmental activities, ensuring effective execution of projects, adherence to KPIs, and continuous process improvements.
  • Foster a collaborative work culture, oversee recruitment, training, and development of engineers.
  • Ensure the highest safety standards in all engineering activities.
  • Support R&D initiatives, product testing, and innovation in crane technologies.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in structural and mechanical design, preferably in container handling equipment.
  • Strong expertise in FEA software (ANSYS, FEMAP + Nastran, SDC Verifier).
  • Skilled in CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks).
  • Experienced in fatigue analysis, lifetime estimation, and defect repair procedures.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and drive process improvements.
  • Knowledge of standards including EN 13001, FEM codes, ISO, and safety regulations relevant to port equipment.
