
Marine Surveyor

- Plan and supervise surveying operations;
- Select, utilize, and calibrate appropriate surveying equipment for marine construction, hydrographic surveys, nautical charts, and maps;
- Select and manage survey boat, software and hardware for the project site;
- Provide accurate reports, manage data and answer technical queries for marine construction activities such as dredging, coastal work, pipelines and environmental monitoring, and other structural construction activities;
- Collect information about the type of seabed along with the movement of water and waves and the delineation of high water and low water line;
- Generate contour maps and other graphical models;
- Validate data, convert data into charts, profiles, and other graphical methods using AutoCAD and other modeling software.
- Assure the project documentation is correct, complete, neat, and consistent with the company’s policies and procedures;
- Interact with project personnel, including contractors, project managers, engineers and clients and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communications and participation in work progress meetings;
- Prepare and oversee subordinates’ final reports, work plans, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices;
- Interpret and apply technical specifications, construction drawings, and work plans and determine appropriate action to implement plan requirements;
- Identify, prepare, and distribute field change requests and request change orders for review and approval by Project Manager or Engineer;
- Identify project staffing requirements and prepare and maintain on-site personnel schedules to meet project deadlines;
- Address and resolve on-site work problems, as well as client, contractor/subcontractor and employee problems quickly and effectively;
- Ensure compliance with project specifications and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific health and safety plans (HASP) and the company’s Environmental Health & Safety Management policies and procedures;
- Oversee the site-specific health and safety plan activities of the subcontractors or other surveyors; Direct tailgate health and safety meetings in accordance with established policies and procedures;
- Manage and abide by the project budget and provide notification of anticipated costs and potential overruns to Project Managers and/or Engineers; and
- Perform related work as required.
- Bachelor's degree in surveying, construction management,civil engineering, geology, marine sciences, or related subjects (required)
- Advanced degree in surveying, construction management,civil engineering, geology, marine sciences, or related subjects (preferred)
- At least 5 years of applicable experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the responsibilities of the position. (required)
- Strong oral and technical writing skills. (required)
- Experience using marine, structural, and geotechnical survey equipment such as a total station, prism pole, echo sounders, multibeam, etc. (preferred)
- Experience with design and modeling software such as AutoCAD, Qinsy, Terramodel, Hypack, Wintopo. (required)
